Inevitably, from Australia to Europe, it's necessary to stop somewhere. We have chosen to stop in Taipei, excellent flight options with Taipei-based China Airlines. My first visit to Taipei since February 1972, when we had an Australian embassy there. History got in the way. Now to return as a private individual.
I somehow contrived to book us with 18 hours stopover on the way to Rome, and subsequently China Airlines cancelled a flight on 8 November, meaning another 18 hours. On the way to Rome, as I will have had a general anaesthetic several days before, the typhoon season still in swing and days hot and humid, we have booked a private room in the Plaza Premium lounge. The weather will be cooler and pleasant on our way back. Because they cancelled a flight, China Airlines are providing a hotel room.
The airport itself offers wonderful entertainment, including thoughtful entertainment. Departure lounges do not need to be austere or dull. Or so it seems. We will report in due course.
